Kiwiburger

Kiwiburger

The KiwiBurger is a hamburger sold at McDonald's restaurants in New Zealand. It consists of an all-beef patty, egg, tomato, lettuce, cheese, onion, cooked beetroot, sauce and mustard in a toasted bun. The egg is fried in a round shape. The burger was also sold in Australia, under the name McOz, however did not include an egg. The McOz has been discountinued, and has been replaced by the McFeast Deluxe.

The New Zealand ad for the KiwiBurger had a well-known song, consisting of 46 Kiwiana items, which was printed on the box for some time and was used in the TV advertisement.

McDonald's introduced the Kiwiburger in 1991 but later discontinued it as it was unprofitable due to the cost of the ingredients. The burger had ingredients that were not a part of any other product (beetroot for example), and the egg had to be cooked on a special grill which impeded operations (because of the temperature and timing).

Due to popular demand, the KiwiBurger was re-introduced to McDonald's New Zealand menu in May 2007Fact|date=October 2007.

In September 2007 a "Vote KiwiBurger" advertising campaign was run by McDonald's to promote retention of the KiwiBurger (which, as of July 2008, has been successful).
