Kraslice (IPA2|ˈkraslɪtsɛ; _de. Graslitz) is a town in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic. It lies on the southern side of the Ore Mountains, some 5 km from the neighbouring German town of Klingenthal.

History

Starting of German settlement campaign of the monastery of Waldsassen in Bavaria during the 12th century in the upper valley of the river Svatava. In 1944 a women's subcamp of Flossenbürg concentration camp was established here.

Name

Originated from medieval German "Graz", meaning forest. During its history were used: Greselin, Zum Greselin, Gresslens, Gresslas, Gresslitz, Graeslitz.

Population

Graslitz had 13.936 inhabitants Dec. 1st 1930, 6.294 inhabitants May 22nd 1947.The town currently has some 7,000 inhabitants – a significant decrease from the pre-World War II population figure of around 20,000, following the expulsion of the German-speaking population after 1945.
