Filippo Mancuso (born July 22, 1922) is an Italian judge and politician. In 1995 he was Italy's Minister of Justice in the government of Lamberto Dini.

Biography

A native of Palermo, Mancuso was a judge for all his life until 1994, when he retired as Supreme Cassation Court member. When he was Justice Secretary he began a lot of inspections in the judicial circuit, primarily Milan. The Olive Tree Coalition and Lega Nord (parliamentary majority) pushed a non confidence individual motion. Mancuso, after the vote, did not resign and the Prime Minister, with President Scalfaro, bumped him, taking Justice Minister ad interim.

In 1996 the Freedom Pole proposed him as a candidate in the Sicily constituency and he was elected deputy. In 2000 Filippo Mancuso was proposed as candidate at the Constitutional Court but the Left Wing did not support him and after almost two years, he retired his nomination. During 2002 he left his party, Forza Italia, and went in a non partisan parliamentary group, being reelected deputy with the House of Freedom in 2001. He said Silvio Berlusconi asked him for an alternative name for the Constitutional Court, but the coalition proposed Romano Vaccarella, attorney and university teacher, as well as Cesare Previti's friends. He charged Previti to blackmail Berlusconi.

After his government experience he was pugnacious with former president Oscar Luigi Scalfaro in that he blamed pressured him in a few events when he was minister. After he renounced the Constitutional Court it seems he said: "I'd really like to go to Constitutional Court."
