Tiachiv

Tyachiv (Rusyn: Тячово, _uk. Тячів, German: "Groß-Teutschenau", Hungarian: "Técső", Romanian: Teceu) is a city located on the Tisza River in the Zakarpattia Oblast (province) in western Ukraine. It is the administrative center of the Tyachivsky Raion (district).

History and Name

In the year 1329 the town was mentioned the first time as "Thechew" (Teutschau), meaning „German meadow“. The town was founded by Bohemian settlers in the 11th century. Until 1919 Tiachiv was part of the Kingdom of Hungary.
