USS "Rogers" (DD-876) was a Sclass|Gearing|destroyer of the
United States Navy . She was named for three brothers — Jack E. Rogers Jr., Charles E. Rogers, and Edwin K. Rogers — killed in action board USS|New Orleans|CA-32|6 during theBattle of Tassafaronga in theSolomon Islands on30 November 1942 ."Rogers" was laid down by the
Consolidated Steel Corporation atOrange, Texas on3 June 1944 , launched on20 November 1944 by Mrs. J. E. Rogers, Sr. and commissioned on26 March 1945 ."Rogers" operated with the
Seventh Fleet in support ofUnited Nations Forces during theKorean War , alternated operations along the west coast and in Hawaiian waters with deployments to the western Pacific with the Seventh Fleet, underwent an extensiveFleet Rehabilitation and Modernization (FRAM) overhaul at theCharleston Naval Shipyard in1963 , and served as plane guard for carriers onYankee Station in theTonkin Gulf , participated inSea Dragon andMarket Time operations, patrolled on search and rescue duties and carried outNaval Gunfire Support missions during the conflict inVietnam ."Rogers" was awarded the
Meritorious Unit Commendation for action in Hawaiian waters on14 January 1969 when she came alongside USS|Enterprise|CVN-65 to assist during a raging flight-deck fire."Rogers" was decommissioned and stricken from the
Naval Vessel Register on1 October 1980 , transferred toSouth Korea on25 July 1981 and renamed "Jeong Ju".ROKS Jeon Ju
The ROKS "Jeon Ju", formerly the USS "Rogers", was transferred to the
Republic of Korea Navy on 25 July 1981.
