CKMS-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 100.3 FM in Waterloo, Ontario. It is the campus radio station of the city's University of Waterloo.

The station launched in 1977 at 94.5 FM, and moved to its current frequency in 1992 where it has been broadcasting from at least 6am until midnight ever since. CKMS can also be heard through a live web stream at www.ckmsfm.ca. [ [http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Decisions/1991/DB91-659.HTM Decision CRTC 91-659] ]

CKMS-FM plays a variety of genres from rap music to rock music to classical music and everything in between. This is something the station prides itself on. The station offers a request line at 1-519-884-CKMS. The programmers at CKMS are all volunteers from the Kitchener-Waterloo community and students at the University of Waterloo.

Governance

The station is governed by a Board of Directors made up of four students and three community members. The current sitting board is as follows:
President: Steve Krysak "(Student)"
Vice President: Bob Puersten "(Community)"
Corporate Secretary: Evan Lichty "(Student)"
Treasurer: Selene MacLeod "(Community)"
Board Member: James "Road Dog" Walker "(Community)"
Board Member: Cole Atlin "(Student)"
Board Member: Aletheia Zoe Chiang "(Student)"

Future of CKMS-FM

In February 2008, a student referendum initiated by the university's Students' Council was passed by more than a 2:1 margin to remove the $5.50 fee per term from students' bill statements that provided approximately 90% of the station's funding. Funding will cease on September 1, 2008.

On June 27, 2008, in order to reduce the station's budget, all but two of CKMS's staff were let go, including the then Station Manager Heather Majaury. The two remaining employees are:Carrie Humphries - Advertising Manager and Henrietta (Henrie) Walker - Administrative Coordinator

The station is now set for a relaunch in image and programming on August 1st 2008 under the name 100.3 Sound FM. The new plan includes a reshuffled schedule to make the programming more friendly to students and advertisers as well as stronger links to campus organizations.
