The Southern Pig-tailed Macaque ("Macaca nemestrina") is a medium-sized Old World monkey found in the southern half of the Thai-Malay Peninsula (only just extending into southernmost Thailand), Borneo, Sumatra and Bangka Island. This omnivorous macaque is mostly found in forest, but will also enter plantations and gardens. [Payne, J., and C. M. Francis. 1998. "A Field Guide to the Mammals of Borneo." The Sabah Society, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. ISBN 967-99947-1-6] It formerly included the Northern Pig-tailed, Pagai Island, and Siberut Macaques as subspecies.
