Tokyo Game Show

The nihongo|Tokyo Game Show|東京ゲームショウ|Tōkyō Gēmu Shō|or simply TGS is a video game expo / convention held in the Makuhari Messe, in Chiba, Japan. Like the Leipzig Games Convention, but in contrast to E3, the Tokyo Game Show allows the general public to attend during the final two days. In 2007, the show was held from 20 to 23 September, with the first two days being business days, whilst on the latter two it was open to the public.The 2008 show will be held from October 9 to October 12.

History

The first Tokyo Game Show was held in 1996. [ [http://expo.nikkeibp.co.jp/tgs/2006/english/news/index.html Tokyo Game Show ] ] Originally, the show was held twice a year, once in the spring and once in the autumn (in the Tokyo Big Sight), but this format was discontinued in 2002 when the show was held only in the autumn. 2004

2005

While traditionally Nintendo does not participate in the Tokyo Game Show, its president, Satoru Iwata held a keynote speech there in 2005, where he revealed the controller for Nintendo's next generation video game console Wii, then known as the Revolution. 2007

"Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep" (PSP), "Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days" (DS) and "Kingdom Hearts coded" (Mobile) were revealed by Square Enix. Sony announced the rumble PS3 controller by the name "DualShock 3", which was released in Japan in November 2007, and in North America and Europe in Spring 2008. PlayStation Home was delayed until the Spring of 2008, and the launch of a PlayStation Store service for PlayStation Portable in Japan was announced. Also, Microsoft announced "Ninja Gaiden II" would be released exclusively for the Xbox 360. The PSP game "Secret Agent Clank" was also announced.

2008

The Tokyo Game Show 2008 will be held from October 9th through the 12th. Days 1 and 2 will be open only to the press while Days 3 and 4 will be open to the general public.
