Grigory Petrovsky

Grigory Ivanovich Petrovsky ( _ru. Григорий Иванович Петровский, _uk. Григорій Іванович Петровський [Hryhoriy Ivanovych Petrovsky] ) (January 23, 1878 - January 9, 1958) was a revolutionary of Ukrainian origin, who was the Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR from December 30, 1922, to January 12, 1938.

Grigory Petrovsky was an active politician for most of his life. The start of his career in politics was when he joined the Russian Social Democratic Workers' Party in 1897. He was a Bolshevik revolutionist until November 1914 when the people of the Bolshevik faction began to be prosecuted and exiled. On December 30, 1922, he became one of the four people to be elected to the USSR Central Executive Committee. He held the position until January 12, 1938, when he was elected Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. This position only lasted a year and a half, and in 1940 he was made the Director of the Revolution Museum of the USSR in Moscow and never returned to politics again. He would live there until his death in 1958.
