Singaporean British or Singaporean Briton is a term used to refer to people of Singaporean descent who have been born in and/or raised in the United Kingdom. This includes people of Singaporean descent and those born in Singapore and have migrated to the UK.

Background

The story of the Singaporean British community roughly follows that of the British Chinese community, as many Singaporeans are actually of Chinese descent. There is a large Singaporean diaspora in the UK, due to Singapore once being a British colony and now being part of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Demographics

40,180 Singaporean-born people were living in the UK in 2001, with an even larger number with Singaporean ancestry. The Singaporean British population has increased by 19.05% since 1991, when 33,751 Singaporean people resided in the UK [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/uk/05/born_abroad/countries/html/singapore.stm] . By the next census (2011), there is likely to be in excess of 100,000 people of Singaporean descent living in the UK.

Population Distribution

Please note that the table below only includes statistics of Singaporean born people, not British born ethnic Singaporeans. The most popular places for Singaporeans to live in the UK include Hyde Park, Kensington, Holborn, Chelsea, Southall, Regents Park, Highgate, East Ham, Richmond (all London), Cambridge, Portsmouth, Oxford, Bath, Plymouth, Exeter and other places on the South English Coast.
