He was a senator for many years.The managing director of a motor vehicle business, Daly was elected to the
13th Seanad on23 April 1975 , at aby-election on theIndustrial and Commercial Panel following the death of SenatorDenis Farrelly . He was defeated in the 1977 Seanad election, and again at the 1981 election, [cite news |url=http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/archive/1981/0815/Pg006.html |title=Senate election results |work=The Irish Times |date=15 August 1981 |page=6 |accessdate=2008-02-07] but was re-elected at the 1982 election to the16th Seanad . He held the seat until his death in 1988, aged nearly 73. The resulting by-election for his seat in the18th Seanad was won by theFianna Fail candidateTony Bromell .
