Felix of Ravenna

Felix of Ravenna

Felix (Felice) (died 724) was an archbishop of Ravenna of the eighth century, in office 709 to his death.

He was consecrated by Pope Constantine [ [http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04294b.htm CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Pope Constantine ] ] , but soon afterwards asserted his independence from Rome. When Ravenna was captured by the forces of Justinian II, Felix was taken to Constantinople, tried and blinded, and sent into exile [ [http://www.telusplanet.net/public/dgarneau/euro43.htm EUROPEAN & ASIAN HISTORY 650 - 749 ] ] [Walter Ullmann, "A Short History of the Papacy in the Middle Ages (2003), p. 64.] [Rosamond McKitterick (editor), "The New Cambridge Medieval History" II (2005), p. 363.] . Justinian was deposed in 711, and Felix returned from Pontus [ [http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/12662b.htm Catholic Encyclopedia: Ravenna ] ] to Ravenna [Jeffrey Richards, "The Popes and the Papacy in the Early Middle Ages, 476-752" (1979), p. 213.] .

He collected 176 sermons of his predecessor Peter Chrysologus [William A. Jurgens, "The Faith of the Early Fathers" (1970), p. 266.] .
